Rio police recommend Lochte, Feigen be indicted for false reporting of a crime

In the latest development of the story that's engulfed the Olympics, Rio police told ABC News they've recommended U.S. swimmers Ryan Lochte and James Feigen be indicted for false reporting of a crime.

It was initially reported by ABC News that Brazilian police had confirmed Lochte and Feigen were already indicted, though that was later changed to a recommendation of indictment.

The move comes after the authorities met with the other two swimmers involved in the Sunday incident, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger, at police headquarters earlier Thursday. Bentz and Conger were pulled off of a flight headed for the U.S. on Wednesday night.

Details continue to leak out from the drama surrounding the four U.S. athletes, who claimed to have been robbed early Sunday morning as they returned to the athletes village. Lochte told the media the foursome was stopped by security guards posing as police and robbed of their money and wallets.

Authorities maintain that no robbery took place, that guns were pointed at the group by security guards after a gas station incident, and that the group left money to pay for damage caused in the bathroom. According to ABC, the swimmers deny that was the case and that they were held up until they handed over hundreds of dollars.

The IOC immediately denied the robbery ever happened, and as more details became available, the validity of the story was called further into question. A surveillance video from the gas station was released Thursday, and the indictment recommendation came just hours later.

Lochte has since returned to the United States, while Feigen is reportedly still in Brazil.
