Barcelona vanquishes Sevilla, reclaims Supercopa de Espana crown

Luis Enrique's collection of major trophies is complete.

On Wednesday, in the second leg of the Supercopa de Espana, Barcelona defeated Sevilla 3-0 at the Camp Nou, claiming a 5-0 victory on aggregate to win the tournament for a record 12th time.

Entering the fixture, the Supercopa de Espana marked the only major trophy Enrique had yet to win since he was appointed as Barcelona's manager in 2014. The Blaugrana fell 5-1 on aggregate to Athletic Bilbao in last year's edition of the competition.

Holding a two-goal lead from the first leg, Barcelona wasted no time piling on the goals. Arda Turan opened the scoring in the 10th minute, completing one of the Blaugrana's traditional passing sequences after Lionel Messi played a beautiful pass. The Turkish attacking midfielder then added to his tally just only 55 seconds into the second half, producing a sumptuous chip to beat Sergio Rico after Sevilla coughed up possession in its own half.

Refusing to end the match without a goal to his name, Messi then put the final nail in Sevilla's coffin in the 55th minute, somehow rising above everyone else to manufacture a header and continue his assault against the Andalusian club.

As for Sevilla, Jorge Sampaoli's side just couldn't catch break. Wissam Ben Yedder hit the crossbar in the fourth minute and, after Samuel Umtiti blocked a shot using his right arm, Vicente Iborra saw his penalty kick saved by a diving Claudio Bravo.

Barcelona and Sevilla will meet again on Nov. 6, when the two clubs are scheduled to clash in La Liga at the Camp Nou.
