Giants' Brown suspended for season opener

Andrew Weber / US Presswire

New York Giants kicker Josh Brown has been suspended one game for violating the league's personal-conduct policy, the team announced.

The specific violation has not been announced, but Brown has released a statement through the team saying he does not agree with the suspension.

While I do not agree with the suspension, I will accept it. I have exhausted the appeals process and have no other options along those lines. I will continue to work hard for this team, and I have tremendous confidence in my teammates and in my ability to move on and contribute to the team.

Brown will still be able to participate in practice and preseason games prior to the regular season officially beginning. He will return to the team following their Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Giants could sign a new kicker, but Tom Obarski is on the roster for training camp. He spent last preseason with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he converted five of seven field goals attempted.
