Watch: Donaldson, Gibbons separated after heated dugout exchange
Throughout his two stints as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, John Gibbons has earned a reputation for being rather laid back, but the affable Texan got serious during Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the New York Yankees in the Bronx.
Unwilling to abide Josh Donaldson flinging his bat into the dugout following a second straight strikeout against CC Sabathia, Gibbons had a word with the reigning MVP, sparking a somewhat heated exchange between the two in the top of the third inning that ended when the two were separated by Josh Thole and Troy Tulowitzki.
In the past, Gibbons has praised Donaldson's in-game disposition, lauding the 30-year-old third baseman for bringing some "toughness" to the team.
"He's got great passion and intensity," Gibbons told TSN's Bryan Hayes during the offseason. "... Just what this team needed."
