Utley homers twice, gets 2 curtain calls in Philly return

Philadelphia Phillies fans might have made Chase Utley feel a little too welcome.

Not long after the former Phillies second baseman received a 1 1/2-minute standing ovation in his first visit to Citizens Bank Park since getting traded to Los Angeles last summer, Utley launched a solo shot in the fifth and grand slam in the seventh to trigger two curtain calls and a game he nor the fans will ever forget.

''It's something you can't really describe in words,'' Utley told reporters after the Dodgers' 15-5 win, which put them alone in first place for the first time since May 10. ''It's a special feeling to see the fans show that much support.''

The multi-homer game was Utley's first at Citizen Bank Park since July 23, 2011, and the seventh-inning grand slam, which was part of an eight-run frame, was his first in Philadelphia since 2005.

The improbable return was fitting for one of the club's most beloved players in team history. Selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2000 draft, Utley established himself as one of the top second basemen in baseball during his run in Philadelphia, helping the club win five straight division titles and the 2008 World Series. A six-time All-Star, Utley compiled 36.6 WAR during his peak years from 2006-2010, more than double Dan Uggla, the next closest second baseman over that span.
