Simone Biles blew past the competition in the women's vault Sunday to win yet another gold medal and become the first American woman to win three golds in gymnastics at the same Games.

The victory, which was the first by an American woman in the vault competition, keeps Biles on track to capture an unprecedented five gold medals.

Biles won the women's vault in dominant fashion with a near-perfect 15.966 score, while silver medalist Maria Paseka of Russia and bronze medalist Giulia Steingruber of Switzerland finished with scores of 15.253 and 15.216, respectively.

Paseka, Steingruber and other contestants, well aware Biles would win the event, congratulated her before the final score was revealed. The mark set a record for the highest ever recorded in a vault final at the Olympics, as well as world championship competitions.

Biles will look to win two additional golds when she competes in the balance beam (Monday) and floor exercise (Tuesday).
