Teixeira tips cap to A-Rod's legacy: 'Damn, was he entertaining'

Alex Rodriguez's legacy can best be described as only that - a legacy.

Over the course of his tumultuous 22-year career, the New York Yankees' slugger was never out of the spotlight. Just ask Mark Teixeira, who took the field with A-Rod every day since 2009, winning a World Series with him in his first season in the Bronx.

"We have two jobs as baseball players," Teixeira, who is retiring at season's end, told reporters Friday night. "One is to win games, and two is to entertain. And Alex won a lot of games when he was here, and damn, was he entertaining."

Rodriguez did it all, from on-field achievements, to off-field gaffes. He was in the spotlight the day he broke into the majors as an 18-year-old in Seattle, and viewed under a microscope when he moved to New York.

After every game in his final week with the Yanks, Rodriguez was asked what he wanted to be remembered for. Repeatedly, he stated he wanted to be remembered as someone who fell down and got back on his feet.

Teixeira didn't have any of that, only remembering the legacy of one of the greatest players to play in the big leagues.

"I think the fans are going to remember a lot of wins and they're going to remember a lot of stories," he said. "I'm going to remember his greatness on the field."
