The NBA preaseason officially starts on October 1. Throughout September and October, theScore will be updating our fantasy rankings, both by position and Top 200 players overall.

These rankings will reflect standard scoring formats, taking into account each player's ability to produce in the following categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, 3-point shots made, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and turnovers.

(updated Oct. 24)

Towns has looked transcendent in the preseason and looks poised to make a leap towards super-stardom in year two. Cousins gets the nod over Davis, who has to prove he can stay healthy for a full season before he can reclaim the crown as top fantasy big man. All three will be off the board by the end of the first round.

Now that it's clear that Chris Bosh will not have an impact on Whiteside's production this season, the Heat's center is locked into the four spot on center boards.

RANK PLAYER TEAM
11 Brook Lopez BKN
12 Derrick Favors UTA
13 Serge Ibaka ORL
14 Marc Gasol MEM
15 Pau Gasol SAS
16 Kristaps Porzingis NYK
17 Nikola Vucevic ORL
18 DeAndre Jordan LAC
19 Rudy Gobert UTA
20 Greg Monroe MIL

Projections are high for Lopez, who enters this season with the weakest supporting cast the Nets have seen since their days in New Jersey. The Jeremy Lin-Lopez combo should lead to a great sheer volume of fantasy production, even if the team only wins 20 games.

RANK PLAYER TEAM
21 Marcin Gortat WAS
22 Dwight Howard ATL
23 Jonas Valanciunas TOR
24 Jahlil Okafor PHI
25 Dirk Nowitzki DAL
26 Nikola Jokic DEN
27 Ryan Anderson HOU
28 Enes Kanter OKC
29 Gorgui Dieng MIN
30 Steven Adams OKC

Okafor has to fight for minutes (and rebounds) with Noel and rookies Joel Embiid and Dario Saric. Assuming the latter two are eased into lighter workloads to start, Okafor has shown an ability to contribute in points and rebounds from both a starting and reserve role.

On the occasions that James Harden decides to pass on break, Anderson should find himself with an opportunity for easy transition three-pointers. The Rockets' pace should help him overcome his relatively slight frame to post substantial rebounding numbers.

RANK PLAYER TEAM
31 Kenneth Faried DEN
32 Myles Turner IND
33 Nerlens Noel PHI
34 Robin Lopez CHI
35 Zach Randolph MEM
36 Clint Capela HOU
37 Mason Plumlee POR
38 Jusuf Nurkic DEN
39 Bismack Biyombo ORL
40 Alex Len PHO

Biyombo gained new fans with his gaudy rebounding totals in the Raptors' playoff run, but he now finds himself in a crowded frontcourt featuring incumbents Vucevic and Aaron Gordon and newcomer Ibaka. He'll be a cheap source of rebounds at a thin position and his field goal percentage should be stellar (as he doesn't attempt shots further than the length of his arm).

Nurkic saw just 17 minutes per game last season but has started alongside Jokic in the preseason so far. The third-year Bosnian big is looking leaner, which should help ease some injury concerns and allow him to see more floor time in general. He's inching closer to passing teammate Faried in the rankings.

TEAM PLAYER RANK
41 Willie Cauley-Stein SAC
42 Markieff Morris WAS
43 Andrew Bogut DAL
44 Joakim Noah NYK
45 Al Jefferson IND
46 Joel Embiid PHI
47 Taj Gibson CHI
48 Ian Mahinmi WAS
49 Zaza Pachulia GSW
50 Ed Davis POR

You're not drafting most of these players for their scoring potential, but their low-usage interior scoring lends itself to high field goal percentages. Players like Bogut and Gibson will help compensate for lower-efficiency volume scorers taken in the earlier rounds, like DeMar DeRozan.
