Hyun-Jin Ryu will once again have his season derailed by an injury.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Thursday that he does not expect the left-hander to pitch again this season as he battles discomfort in his pitching elbow.

Ryu has made just one start over the past two seasons as his once promising career has been significantly interrupted due to a number of ailments. He missed all of the 2015 season following shoulder surgery but made his return to the mound this July, allowing six runs in just 4 2/3 innings.

The Dodgers shut Ryu down shortly after his start as he complained of soreness in his elbow. An MRI failed to provide much clarity, though the team said he had been dealing with elbow tendinitis. Ryu was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 19, and transferred to the 60-day DL on Aug 1.

Despite numerous injuries to their rotation, the Dodgers enter play Thursday with a 1 1/2-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the National League West.

Rich Hill, Clayton Kershaw, Brandon McCarthy, Bud Norris, and Alex Wood are among the starters occupying the DL along with Ryu.
