Sunderland manager David Moyes was inevitably questioned on the future of Lamine Kone at Friday's press conference, and said he expects the defender to sign a new contract on Sept. 1.
The 27-year-old announced his intention to leave Sunderland after not being offered the improved terms he was promised if the club retained its Premier League status in 2015-16. Everton has reportedly offered £18 million for him.

However, the confidence in which Moyes replied to questions on the Ivorian suggest the former Lorient centre-half will continue to honour the four years remaining on his current deal.
"Lamine is very much part of my plans. We will renew his contract on the 1st of September," said Moyes.
"Lamine is a big part of the team, the fans like him and we need him."
Moyes has overseen a busy week at the Stadium of Light, bringing in Papy Djilobodji, Paddy McNair, and Donald Love to bolster the defence, while winger Adnan Januzaj has joined on a season-long loan from Manchester United.
All four new signings will be part of the squad heading to Manchester City for Saturday's Premier League opener.
