Seahawks OC: Christine Michael has 'had an awakening'

Joe Nicholson / USA TODAY Sports

The football season is just one month away, so it's only appropriate that the Christine Michael hype train once again starts picking up steam.

All indications are the young running back has fared well in his opportunities in Seattle Seahawks training camp, but offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell took that notion a step further in an appearance Thursday on 710 ESPN Seattle, saying Michael has "had an awakening" heading into his fourth season.

Michael, a second-round pick in 2013, has long been a favorite of the fantasy football community. With Marshawn Lynch retired and Thomas Rawls working his way back from injury, the 2016 campaign may represent his best opportunity to make good on his potential.

The 25-year-old showed flashes of ability upon returning to the Seahawks last seasons after a brief stint with the Dallas Cowboys, averaging 4.5 yards per carry in 39 attempts in the last three games.

Continued progress, as Bevell described, would go a long way toward his chances of besting a trio of rookie backs for a lead role if Rawls is limited to start the season.
