Michigan State's Malik McDowell won't turn pro unless he's a top 3 pick

Malik McDowell heading to the NFL after his junior season may not be a foregone conclusion.

The Michigan State defensive tackle, considered by some to be a likely top 10 pick in the 2017 draft, claims he won't declare unless his stock is deemed far greater than that.

"Top 10 ain't good enough for me," McDowell said Monday at Michigan State's media day. "I ain't leaving if I'm (only) top 10. If I'm not top three, I don't leave. Really. I'm just trying to live day by day. It's one through three, that's the only way I'm going. I'm happy, I like it here, I ain't really in a rush to leave."

McDowell turned many heads last season on a team that went all the way to the College Football Playoff. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound lineman recorded 40 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and an interception he returned for a score.

If McDowell does indeed stick around for his senior campaign it will be a huge boost for the Spartans, but he still has plenty of time to change his mind.
