Midfield maestro Marco Verratti has renewed terms with Paris Saint-Germain yet again. The four-time defending Ligue 1 champion confirmed Friday that the 23-year-old signed a five-year contract earlier in the week.

Images on Twitter showed Verratti putting pen to paper Tuesday, but an official announcement only arrived Friday. This is the fourth time Verratti has renewed his contract at PSG.

"It's an honour because the club has once again renewed its confidence in me, and I accepted the offer immediately because it's also what I wanted, because I want to keep winning with this club," Verratti said.

"We have already won a lot in France and I want to keep winning, and now we also hope to win in Europe because that's our aim, the club's aim."

Real Madrid and Juventus, among others, have been linked with the player on a yearly basis. But, once again, Verratti is going nowhere.

The Italy international first joined PSG on a €12-million deal in 2012, as owner Qatar Sports Investments ramped up efforts to produce a Champions League-winning side.

It hasn't yet achieved that goal, falling to Manchester City in the quarter-finals last season, but Verratti remains PSG's crown jewel.

He missed a chunk of the 2015-16 campaign because of a groin injury, which required surgery and eventually ruled him out of Euro 2016.
