Philadelphia Union acquire Charlie Davies from New England Revolution

The Philadelphia Union announced Thursday the club has acquired forward Charlie Davies and a third-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft from the New England Revolution in exchange for general and targeted allocation money and the Union's natural first-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.

The move comes one day after the Union added a Designated Player to its ranks in U.S. international midfielder Alejandro Bedoya, while subsequently trading long-serving winger Sebastien Le Toux to the Colorado Rapids.

"Charlie adds another dynamic dimension to our attack and is exactly the type of player we targeted during this window," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said. "We're thrilled to be able to add another player of quality and look forward to welcoming him to the club."

Davies joins the Union after spending the last four seasons with the Revs, where he made 69 appearances, scoring 17 goals in league and playoff action.

He was an unused substitute for the Revs this season from the end of April through July, and revealed he had been diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called liposarcoma earlier in the year and is now in full remission.

The 30-year-old was a passenger in a fatal car accident on Oct. 13, 2009, that left him severely injured as well, but he recovered and has become a regular fixture in the Revs' lineup.

Interestingly, Davies and Bedoya both played for the Boston College Eagles, though at different times.
