Auburn dismisses RB Jovon Robinson from program

John Reed / USA TODAY Sports

Auburn running back Jovon Robinson was absent from the team's first practice of fall camp Wednesday, and it did not take long to learn why.

Head coach Gus Malzahn announced after practice that he has dismissed Robinson from the team, according to James Crepea of Al.com.

Malzahn maintained that Robinson failed to meet his standards of an Auburn football player, while adding that "there's going to be no distractions" within the Tigers team this season.

The head coach did not specify the reasons for Robinson's dismissal in detail.

Robinson was expected to be the starting running back for Auburn in 2016. The back totaled 639 rushing yards with three touchdowns in 2015 and was named the MVP of the Birmingham Bowl after a 126-yard performance on the ground.

Auburn currently has seven running backs listed on its team roster, including senior Damian Lewis, former five-star recruit Kerryon Johnson and sophomore Cedric Chambers.

It remains unclear where, if anywhere, the senior will end up after his exit from Auburn.
