Angels designate 'regressed' Lincecum for assignment

Tim Lincecum's time with the Los Angeles Angels has come to a merciful end for both pitcher and team.
The right-hander was designated for assignment Saturday on the heels of a six-run shellacking by the Seattle Mariners the night before.
"He hasn't progressed from his first couple starts," Angels manger Mike Scioscia told reporters. "He's regressed."
Lincecum agreed to a one-year, $2.5-million deal with the Angels in May after undergoing hip surgery eight months prior. He allowed just one run over six innings in his debut, but things quickly went south.
The two-time Cy Young winner went 2-6 with a 9.16 ERA over nine starts, allowing 11 home runs and 23 walks in just 38 1/3 innings. He allowed four or more runs in six starts, and finished just one outing in which he didn't allow a homer.
