Salazar to undergo MRI on throwing arm

The Cleveland Indians are sending right-hander Danny Salazar for a precautionary MRI after he was shelled Monday, manager Terry Francona told reporters.

"He obviously doesn't look like himself the last couple games," Francona said, according to MLB.com. "So what we're going to do is we're going to get him looked at tomorrow, mostly, I hope, just for his peace of mind. Hopefully, nothing, and then we can move forward, and I think Danny can relax a little bit, and if there's a need to look at it further, we can."

Salazar was chased after two innings, giving up six runs on six hits, including three home runs, while walking a pair.

"There's something in my elbow," Salazar said. "I don't know what it is."

Salazar suffered from right shoulder fatigue in early June and was considered day to day. In 2011, he underwent Tommy John surgery, but doesn't think it's a reoccurring issue.

"Everything in that part of elbow is fine," Salazar told reporters, but, over his last five starts, the 26-year-old owns a 7.88 ERA while allowing seven homers in 22 innings.

Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway added that he, too, sees something different with his ace.

"It just seems like it's not the same Danny when he's out there," he said. "He usually has fun when he's pitching. You're not seeing that."

Still, despite his recent struggles (which have coincided with a notable dip in velocity), Salazar is still 11-4 with a 3.38 ERA.
