Two years on from winning the World Cup with Germany, Bastian Schweinsteiger has been allegedly banished from Manchester United first-team training for preseason preparations with the outfit's under-23 squad instead.

The Manchester Evening News' Samuel Luckhurst says the 32-year-old joins Adnan Januzaj, Andreas Pereira, Paddy McNair, and Will Keane as those phased out by new boss Jose Mourinho, heightening speculation that the midfielder is on his way out of Old Trafford.

Schweinsteiger only joined United from Bayern Munich last summer, but an injury-hit introduction to English football saw him collect just 13 Premier League starts in 2015-16. He retired from international duty last week following a semi-final exit at Euro 2016, and is said to be interesting Paris Saint-Germain and Fenerbahce.

Ahead of him in the pecking order at United is Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin, and Marouane Fellaini (although the latter is the subject of interest from Sunderland), and the well-documented pursuit of Juventus' Paul Pogba could be completed in the coming days.

Elsewhere at United, 20-year-old Curacao international Liandro Martis is currently at Carrington on a trial spell with the club.

Mourinho has overseen two victories and one defeat in warm-up matches, and after a friendly against Everton on Wednesday will man the touchline for a Community Shield bout with Leicester City at Wembley next Sunday.
