Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett reported to training camp Saturday despite vocally lobbying for a new contract throughout the summer.

Bennett is under contract through 2018 and will earn $4 million in base salary for the upcoming season. The Pro Bowler signed a four-year, $28.5-million extension with the Seahawks in March 2014, but is demanding to be paid a sum that's in line with the NFL's highest-paid defensive linemen.

Despite oft-contentious negotiations with general manager John Schneider, Bennett said he wants to remain with the club for the remainder of his career.

"I just wanted to show up and be a great teammate," Bennett said, according to ESPN's Sheil Kapadia. "No distractions for the team. I just want to be a Seahawk for the rest of my life. That's the most important thing.

"I just want to get back to Houston, Texas and play in the Super Bowl in my hometown and play against my brother (Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett). That's all I think about, so here to make that happen."

Equally adept at defensive end or tackle, Bennett is coming off an excellent campaign where he recorded a career-high 10 sacks, 52 tackles, and two forced fumbles. Bennett sounded somewhat optimistic about reaching a new deal in due time.

"You want to exemplify everything there is in a great player and a great teammate," Bennett said. "You want the team to compensate for whatever you do. But you've just got to stay true to who you are, and everything will work itself out."
