Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith released a statement regarding DeAndre Hopkins' decision to hold out of training camp, due to a contract dispute.

Hopkins recorded 111 receptions for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015, establishing himself as one of the NFL's marquee wide receivers.

"We are disappointed DeAndre has elected not to report to training camp with the rest of his teammates. He has expressed his position regarding his contract status, and we have been clear with both he and his representatives of ours. Our focus is on the 2016 season and all of our collective efforts and attention will be centered on that endeavor," Smith wrote via NFL Network's James Palmer.

Hopkins will be paid $1.6 million for the 2016 season under the terms of his existing contract. The Texans picked up Hopkins' fifth-year option for 2017, ensuring that he'll be paid $7.9 million during the final year of his contract. Under the current provisions, Hopkins won't be able to reach the open market until 2018.
