Report: Magic in no rush to move Vucevic

The Orlando Magic have spent the summer revamping their frontcourt by acquiring Serge Ibaka from the Oklahoma City Thunder and signing Bismack Biyombo to a four-year, $72-million contract, which begs the question: What are the team's plans for center Nikola Vucevic?

The roster is severely lacking when it comes to playmakers who can move the rock, with Victor Oladipo - one of Orlando's stronger facilitators last season - now with Oklahoma City as a result of the Ibaka trade. It's that void which is currently keeping the Magic from dealing the 25-year-old Swiss center, league sources told ESPN's Zach Lowe.

Vucevic is one of the league's top big men capable of passing out of the post, ranking sixth in potential assists among qualified centers. He also contributed to 17.6 percent of the team's dimes while on the floor, which is a respectable number for a man of his stature.

While Biyombo will be earning a touch over $5 million more during the 2016-17 campaign, it's not expected that he'll get the start at the five spot over Vucevic, who led Orlando in scoring (18.2 points), rebounding (8.9), and rejections (1.1) last season.

"I was starting. I don't expect that to change," Vucevic told Sirius XM NBA Radio weeks ago. "I think I have proven I am definitely a starter in this league and I believe one of the best centers in this league."

"I don't believe there is any reason for me to come off the bench. I have spoken to the Magic about it. They know that. That's no disrespect to Bismack and he proved a lot last season and had a great playoff. But I believe I will still be a starter and one of the main guys on the team going forward as well."

General manager Rob Hennigan called Vucevic after the team came to terms with Biyombo to reassure him that he was still going to have an important role with the Magic, although he wouldn't guarantee him that he'd remain a starter, per Lowe.
