Report: Chiefs' Berry not planning to report for training camp

Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry isn't planning to report for training camp, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The news isn't a big surprise, as he has yet to sign his franchise tag, and thus isn't subject to team fines for skipping camp.

What remains unclear is whether Berry, who failed to reach a long-term extension with the Chiefs before the franchise tag deadline and cannot re-enter negotiations until after the season, plans to skip all of training camp and perhaps regular-season action, too.

Though he's locked into a one-year contract worth $10.8 million, it's possible he can use a holdout to force the Chiefs to agree not to use the franchise tag on him again next year.

Berry earned NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2015, after beating Hodgkin lymphoma and resuming his career as one of the NFL's premier safeties.
