Report: Yankees will hold onto Miller for time being

His bullpen mate may be as good as gone, but that doesn't mean Andrew Miller needs to start scanning the real estate ads in other cities just yet.

The New York Yankees will hold on to the left-hander for the time being after reportedly trading fellow southpaw Aroldis Chapman to the Chicago Cubs earlier Monday, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

While the Yankees could likely get an excellent return for Miller, who unlike the pending free agent Chapman is under contract for another two seasons, the Yankees don't appear ready to go into full-scale sell mode and deal him just yet. Instead, it appears the team will play out the next week and see where they are in the standings before attempting to move Miller or any other pieces ahead of the Aug. 1 deadline.

Miller's name has been bandied about in rumors throughout July, with the Washington Nationals and Cleveland Indians among the teams supposedly interested in him.

The trade of Chapman, which is expected to be finalized later Monday, was apparently only agreed to once owner Hal Steinbrenner gave his OK after attempts to extend the Cuban fireballer were rebuffed. Though Chapman wants to test free agency, there's apparently a chance at a winter reunion between the two sides, per Sherman.

Despite being characterized as sellers, the Yankees enter Monday's game against Houston having gone 6-4 in their last 10 contests, which included series wins against the Orioles and Giants this week. They're sitting just 4 1/2 games out of a wild-card spot and 7 1/2 back in the AL East.
