The Vancouver Whitecaps announced Wednesday the club has acquired forward Fabian Espindola out of D.C. United in a trade for General Allocation Money, though specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Espindola, 31, has plied his trade in MLS for 10 seasons. In that time, the Argentine attacker has notched 73 goals and recorded 42 assists, making 252 appearances in all competitions.

"We are thrilled to welcome Fabian to Vancouver," Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said in a statement. "He is a proven goal-scorer in this league, always difficult to play against, and knows what it takes to win."

Espindola joins a Whitecaps team looking for more depth in its offensive ranks, as the club recently parted ways with Designated Player striker Octavio Rivero. He will compete with Panamanian forward Blas Perez for a starting role in Robinson's side.

“"Fabi has been a valuable part of our team over the last few seasons,”" D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said in a club statement. "We thank him for his service and wish him the best.”"
