Looking to bolster a weathering side desperate for some youthful vigour, Manchester City has reportedly tabled a bid for West Ham teenager Reece Oxford.

Apart from the acquisition of Nolito from Celta Vigo, incoming gaffer Pep Guardiola's summer buys have targeted younger players, and a move for Oxford, 17, would be consistent with that. With two years remaining on his Hammers deal, City is looking to snatch the teenage midfielder, according to Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph.

Reports suggest that City will have to place a bid in excess of the £10 million Bundesliga new-boys Red Bull Leipzig presented earlier in the summer, with Sky Sports conceding that it could take at least the £15-million valuation of the player.

Highly coveted among England's youth set-ups, Oxford vaulted onto the scene with his performance during last season's Premier League opener against Arsenal. The Irons took the result 2-0 at the Emirates, and Oxford was stellar on his debut, playing 79 minutes in a deep-lying midfield role behind Dimitri Payet.

With his performance, Oxford became West Ham's youngest player, and his reputation has only been heightened by his displays for England's Under-19 European Championship side in Germany preparing for Saturday's final.
