Dolphins sign Arian Foster

The Miami Dolphins have signed free-agent running back Arian Foster, the team announced Monday.

Foster has agreed to an incentive-laden one-year, $1.5-million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The deal could be worth as much as $3.5 million depending on Foster's performance.

Foster's agent Mike McCartney confirmed Foster agreed to a one-year contract.

After spending the first seven years of his career with the Houston Texans, Foster was released in March in an effort to save about $6.6 million against the cap.

The four-time Pro Bowler is also recovering from a ruptured Achilles suffered in October.

The Dolphins now have a loaded backfield for quarterback Ryan Tannehill to rely on. Second-year pro Jay Ajayi is a major breakout candidate after turning heads both as a rookie and in the offseason. The team also selected Kenyan Drake in the third round of this year's draft.

Foster has proven a reliable option when healthy, averaging 4.5 yards per carry and over 85 rushing yards per game in his career. His versatility is also still a major asset, as he caught 22 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns in four games last season.
