The Houston Astros landed one of the top international free agents Friday, agreeing to a reported five-year, $47.5-million deal with Yulieski Gurriel to bolster an already contending club with one of Cuba's most heralded players.

And Houston may not be done adding members of the Gurriel bloodline, either.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow told reporters Saturday at a news conference that his club plans to make a run at Yulieski's younger brother, Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

"It'd be great for my brother to be here so I wouldn't have to do this alone," Yulieski said. "I know that my brother has extraordinary talent and I'd love to have him here."

The 22-year-old Lourdes doesn't have the same experience as his older brother, but was considered one of Cuba's top prospects before he defected in February.

"We've always helped each other so much, it would actually be a great help to me to have him here as I've always had," Yulieski said of his brother.

Lourdes, who is capable of playing multiple spots in both the infield and outfield but projects as a second baseman, hit .321/.387/.537 with eight home runs and 11 doubles in 43 games last year.

He's currently not eligible to sign with a club, but his agent, Adam Katz, hopes to get him ready for a showcase by the end of summer.

"He needs to get cleared by Major League Baseball so he can be part of this process,” Katz explained of Lourdes. "Then, we hope to showcase him in mid-August, late August, when he's ready. We'll showcase him and then he should be ready to go maybe in October."
