Impact trade Cameron Porter to Sporting KC for Amadou Dia

The Montreal Impact announced Tuesday the club has acquired French-born full-back Amadou Dia from Sporting Kansas City in a player-for-player trade, with forward Cameron Porter heading the other way.

Dia, 23, joins the Impact having made 32 regular-season appearances. Porter, also 23, heads to Kansas City with two appearances and just 39 minutes of regular-season action under his belt.

"We took this decision in order to improve our depth at the full-back position," Impact technical director Adam Braz said in a club statement. "Amadou is a young player that has already gained a good amount of experience in the last year and a half and will provide us with some depth for the second half of the season."

Porter's acquisition was well-received by Sporting KC head coach Peter Vermes, who believes the striker is a player who has "a lot of upside," and "can play multiple positions in the attack."

Braz seems to agree with that assessment, but saw more value in increasing depth at full-back than keeping Porter in Montreal's already-full stockade of forwards.

"With the number of strikers on our roster, it would have been difficult for Cameron to break through and gain significant minutes," Braz explained. "This provides him the opportunity to go somewhere and hopefully have a chance to gain some minutes. We want to thank Cameron for his services on and off the field and wish him the best of luck moving forward."
