Jaguars owner eyes playoffs: 'We've suffered long enough'

It's been nine seasons since the Jacksonville Jaguars made the playoffs and owner Shad Khan says enough is enough.

The Jaguars' offense made huge strides last season, finishing with a top 10 passing game. Jacksonville also made several defensive additions in the offseason, raising the team's expectations higher than they've been in years.

"We should have ambitions for the postseason now," Khan recently told Tom Pelissero of USA TODAY Sports. "I think we’ve suffered long enough. It's been painful."

Jacksonville had double-digit losses in each of the last five seasons. Khan has been quite patient in recent years, giving head coach Gus Bradley and general manager David Caldwell plenty of rope to develop his team into a winner.

"We’ve been fortunate where Shad’s given us four good years to build this and get this up to what we feel is a competitive NFL team," Caldwell, who has served as GM since 2013, said. "This is the first offseason where I think we’re all excited going into the season of, hey, we’ve got a chance now. And we’ll see what happens."

Caldwell signed defensive end Malik Jackson, cornerback Prince Amukamara, and safety Tashaun Gipson before drafting cornerback Jalen Ramsey and linebacker Myles Jack to his defense. The Jags will also debut their 2015 first-round pick, pass-rusher Dante Fowler, who missed last season with a knee injury.

Those new players, along with emerging offensive stars Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson, and Allen Hurns, have created arguably the most exciting lineup the team has had in its 21 NFL seasons.

"Now, we have the talent in place, and I think if you are a Jaguars fan, you should be excited and you should have some expectations that we’re going to be a sustainable, winning organization now," Khan said.

"I have expectations that not only are we going to be better, but we’re going to be sustainable and this isn’t going to be a flash in the pan where we’re just going to flame out."
