Lauzon becomes 1st fighter to stop Sanchez by strikes
Joe Lauzon is known for being a finishing machine, but he's going to remember this one for a long time.
With a deadly torrent of punches that had Diego Sanchez out on his feet after just 86 seconds, Lauzon became the first man to knock out the original "Ultimate Fighter" winner in Sanchez's 14-year career.
The two UFC lifers headlined the Fight Pass portion of the preliminary card at UFC 200 on Saturday.
Already the owner of the most stoppages in UFC lightweight history, Lauzon added arguably the most impressive scalp to his collection by making the durable Sanchez his 12th victim in the Octagon.
The only other time Sanchez failed to go the distance in a loss was due to a cut stoppage in a title match against B.J. Penn in December 2009.
Lauzon improved to 13-8 in 21 appearances, third most in lightweight history behind Jim Miller (23) and Gleison Tibau (26). He has alternated wins and losses in his last four fights.
Sanchez falls to 15-8 in the UFC. This was the first time in his last 11 appearances that the fight did not go to the judges.
