Nats' Perez burns former team with 1st hits since 2010

Heading into Thursday's contest at Citi Field, Washington Nationals reliever Oliver Perez wasn't exactly the most popular guy among New York Mets fans. Now, the folks in Queens probably hate him even more.

Hitless since 2010, Perez - persona non grata in the eastern borough for stumbling through the three-year, $36-million deal he signed with the Mets in 2009 - burned his former club in rather unexpected fashion, notching a single and a double in two plate appearances after entering the game in the fourth.

With his sixth-inning double off Hansel Robles, Perez - who fashioned a 6.81 ERA over 112 1/3 innings across his last two seasons with the Mets - matched his career high in extra-base hits.
