Durant has no plans to opt out of Warriors deal
After enduring one of the most stressful processes of his NBA career, Kevin Durant wants to delay another trip to the free-agent market as long as possible.
The seven-time All-Star was unveiled by the Golden State Warriors on Thursday after agreeing to a two-year deal that will see him switch organizations for the first time in his 10-year career.
Durant met with a number of teams before shockingly deciding on the Warriors, and acknowledged that he has no intentions of opting out of his new deal after year one in order to jump back into the free agent experience.
"I plan on being here," Durant said. "I don't want to go through that again."
It was largely believed that while the Warriors were an enticing option for Durant, he would return to the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, that all changed Monday when he made his announcement to head west on The Players' Tribune.
The 27-year-old said that he was torn when he went to sleep the night before, but woke up with clarity that it was the right decision to join the Warriors. That didn't make his announcement any easier, however.
"That call to Oklahoma City was the hardest thing I had to do in my life," Durant said. "Tears were shed… but I trusted my gut and my instincts."
