Jarrett Stidham confirms he'll transfer from Baylor

Jarrett Stidham's short time at Baylor is officially coming to an end.

The sophomore quarterback confirmed earlier reports of his impending transfer Thursday, tweeting out a statement to thank those involved with the football program in Waco.

"After careful thought and consideration, I am announcing my decision to transfer from Baylor University," Stidham wrote. "I would like to thank my teammates, friends, family, and fellow students for the support throughout my career thus far. Also, I want to thank the coaching staff that brought me here and gave me this opportunity to play. This has been a difficult decision, but I wish nothing but the best to my teammates and Baylor football in the future."

Though it's not yet clear where Stidham will enroll for the 2016 season, recent speculation would appear to indicate he could spend a year at the junior-college level before transferring elsewhere in Division I.

Stidham started three games following the injury to Seth Russell as a true freshman in 2015, though with Russell expected to return to full health, the options for Stidham were limited.

Interim head coach Jim Grobe said in an interview with ESPN 1660 in Waco that he believes Stidham's desire to play right away led to the transfer.

"It's always hard when you have two really talented quarterbacks, because they both want plenty of snaps. Last year, we weren't able to give Jarrett enough snaps, though some injuries affected that," Grobe said. "I don't think he was happy backing up Seth Russell and so he's decided to move on and try to find a place where he can get more snaps."

Stidham was the second-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2015, rated 37th overall by ESPN. He completed 68.8 percent of his passes for 1,265 yards with 12 touchdowns and two interceptions, while adding a pair of rushing TDs last season.
