Report: Heat optimistic Wade will re-sign

The Miami Heat are banking on the hope that Dwyane Wade wants to remain with the only NBA franchise he's ever played for.

Though negotiations are reportedly at "a bit of an impasse," the Heat are optimistic Wade will re-sign after Miami offered a two-year, $40-million deal earlier Monday, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

The Heat made a major splash this summer by agreeing to a four-year, $98-million deal to re-sign center Hassan Whiteside. A source tells Shelburne that Wade hopes to land either a longer deal than the two years offered or more than $20 million annually should he agree to a two-year contract.

Selected fifth overall by the Heat in the 2003 draft, Wade ranks first on the franchise list in games played, points, assists, and steals, while winning three NBA titles.

With negotiations between the Heat and Wade stalling, the 12-time All-Star has generated outside interest from the New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, and Chicago Bulls.
