Giggs lacks personality to be great manager, says ex-teammate

Ryan Giggs' former Wales teammate Nathan Blake doesn't believe the former winger has the personality to succeed in management, and says he should stick to being an assistant.

Giggs ended a 29-year association with Manchester United last week to try his hand overseeing a club, but Blake, who won 29 international caps between 1994 and 2003, doesn't think much of his credentials.

"I don't think he will be a great number one - I think he'd be a great number two, I really do, but I don't think he's quite got the personality to be a great number one," the former Cardiff City and Bolton Wanderers striker told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Having experienced Giggs' exploits down the left flank first hand, Blake certainly appreciates the footballer that called time on his career in 2014. As for the coach, Blake questions whether he has the passion required to thrive.

"He was a freak of nature, but that doesn't mean to say that great players make great managers," continued Blake.

"I don't think Ryan's lacking, just knowing the way I know him, I just couldn't see him doing what Sir Alex Ferguson did - trying to rip your head off, throwing cups of tea on you, kicking footballs at you - it's just not him."

Under the watch of Chris Coleman, Wales has clinched a best-ever semi-final berth at Euro 2016, where it faces Portugal on Wednesday.
