Report: Gasol met with T-Wolves, still considering Blazers, Spurs

There's no shortage of interest for Pau Gasol.

The 15-year veteran is taking a turn toward his late-thirties, but remains one of the top names on the market, with a trio of Western Conference teams hot on his trail.

The Minnesota Timberwolves met with Gasol for a "long talk" on Friday, according to Jon Krawczynski of The Associated Press.

Ex-Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau has been linked to several of his former players, and with the likes of Joakim Noah and Luol Deng off the market, Thibodeau's attention now turns to the Spaniard.

The Timberwolves are an attractive destination given their bounty of burgeoning young talents, but they haven't made the postseason since 2004. That could dissuade Gasol as he's nearing the twilight of his career.

Krawczynski reports that the San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers also hold interest in Gasol. Both those teams - especially the Spurs - would give Gasol a better chance to compete.

It might ultimately come down to money. The Spurs are in the hunt for Kevin Durant, and they need to commit every dollar toward that effort. Meanwhile, the Blazers and Timberwolves both have an excess of cap room to woo Gasol.

The 35-year-old averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and two blocks in 72 games with the Bulls last season.
