New York City FC sells Kwadwo Poku to Miami FC

New York City FC announced Wednesday the club has sold midfielder Kwadwo Poku to North American Soccer League outfit Miami FC, though specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Poku, 24, joined the club in its inaugural 2015 campaign and has recorded five goals and seven assists in 34 appearances for the Pigeons, becoming something of a fan favourite at Yankee Stadium. The Ghanaian came to the United States to play with the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2014 before making the switch to Major League Soccer the year after.

"This is a move that really makes sense for us," sporting director Claudio Reyna said in a statement. "Miami came with a significant offer that will give us options in the summer transfer window and beyond. We know and understand that at this stage of his career playing regular first team football is very important to Poku.

"We'd like to thank Poku for his contribution to the building of New York City FC on and off the pitch. Everyone at the club wishes him the very best in this next chapter of his career."

Miami FC technical director Mauro Pederzoli was quite pleased with his side's latest acquisition.

"We are thrilled to be bringing on a player like Poku onto our roster," he said in a statement. "Poku adds a physical presence to our attack and we believe he will help us achieve our goals for the fall season."
