Toronto FC 'keeper Irwin sidelined 6 weeks with quad strain

Toronto FC will be without goalkeeper Clint Irwin for at least six weeks of action, with the club announcing Tuesday that its starting shot-stopper sustained a quad strain during a 3-2 loss against Orlando City on Saturday.

Irwin lasted about 70 minutes against the Lions in the sweltering heat of the Citrus Bowl before going down clutching his right leg after striking a goal kick. Head coach Greg Vanney turned to Alex Bono as his in-game replacement, though Vanney could now look to Quillan Roberts as a potential option as well.

Irwin had played every minute of Toronto FC's first 14 matches of the 2016 season up to that point. He joins Jozy Altidore, Dan Lovitz, and Ashtone Morgan in the club's recovery room.
