Report: Knicks confident they'll land meeting with Durant
While no meeting has been scheduled between the two sides, the New York Knicks remain optimistic about landing a meeting with unrestricted free agent Kevin Durant, ESPN's Ian Begley reports, citing sources.
The Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs have reportedly already landed recruiting meetings with Durant, with the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat also expected to get-together with the 6-foot-9 forward.
Given Durant's strong relationship with Carmelo Anthony and the ties between his agent and Knicks general manager Steve Mills, New York reportedly remains confident in its chances, despite being left off the initial list of teams to land a meeting with the 27-year-old.
Although it appears unlikely that Durant would actually come to the Big Apple, the Knicks certainly have the cap space to sign the Texas product to a max-level contract, with close to $40 million left to spend this summer.
Reports surfaced earlier this year that Durant would only be willing to leave Oklahoma City if he signed on with a contender, so New York's chances appear grim.
In 72 games this season, Durant averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists on 50.5 percent shooting and 38.7 percent from the deep, leading the Thunder to the Western Conference Finals.
