Former 4-star Baylor commit Devin Duvernay lands with Texas
Charlie Strong landed a major piece for the rebuild of Texas' offense on Wednesday, as four-star receiver and former Baylor commit Devin Duvernay announced he was joining the Longhorns.
"I'm going to Texas," Duvernay told Gerry Hamilton of ESPN. "I just feel like they are coming up, and feel good about Charlie Strong and his staff's plan and they are going to turn this thing around. I feel like Coach Sterlin Gilbert (offensive coordinator) is kind of the missing piece to help out the offense."
Duvernay is the third-ranked receiver in the country for the 2016 recruiting class and comes in as the 42nd overall prospect on the ESPN 300.
He committed to Baylor last November and was headed to play for the Bears before the Art Briles firing. While the school hasn't released other commits from their national letters of intent despite the coaching change, Baylor failed to properly submit Duvernay's letter to the Big 12, making him eligible to sign with another school.
The addition of Gilbert to run the Longhorns' offense was obviously a major piece in landing Duvernay's commitment. The new offensive coordinator runs a very similar offense to the spread-based attack Briles employed during his time with Baylor.
