Philadelphia Union part ways with Vincent Nogueira

Creative central midfielder Vincent Nogueira is heading back home to France, as the Philadelphia Union announced Thursday the club and player have mutually terminated his contract due to "personal health issues."

"I want to thank Philadelphia Union for their understanding of my situation and wish my teammates well going forward," Nogueira said in an official statement.

The news came as a bit of a surprise for the club's followers, as Nogueira was a vital cog in Philadelphia's Eastern Conference-leading 2016 campaign thus far. The 28-year-old has made 64 appearances under his belt with the Union, scoring nine goals and recording three assists in that time.

Specifics regarding Nogueira's health issues were not revealed.

"We want to thank Vincent for his contributions to the club over the last two years and we wish him the best, both personally and professionally," Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said. "At this time, it was our desire to enable him to be with his family at home in France."
