Sturridge: 'Unbelievable' feeling to score match-winner for England

England hero Daniel Sturridge was elated after Thursday's 2-1 defeat of Wales, calling the experience of scoring his stoppage-time winner "unbelievable."

"It's a great feeling, unbelievable. I'm grateful for the opportunity from the gaffer," the Liverpool striker said after a deft bit of interplay between he, fellow sub Jamie Vardy, and Dele Alli gave England a 2-1 victory in Lens.

"It's a beautiful feeling to represent your country in a great rivalry against another country. It's great."

On the heels of an underwhelming opening stanza, Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson brought on the strike tandem of Sturridge and Vardy at the half for Raheem Sterling and an out-of-form Harry Kane.

Vardy nullified Gareth Bale's first-half free-kick from distance before Sturridge's 92nd-minute winner put England top of Group B on four points.

"There's one more game in the group to go so no one's getting too excited but the atmosphere is unbelievable, and the togetherness between the two countries is amazing."

Hodgson now faces a selection dilemma ahead of the final group match against against Slovakia.

Likely needing a victory to win the group ahead of a Welsh side that will now face dismal Russia, Hodgson needs to decide if he'll drop Sterling and Kane for goal-scorers Vardy and Sturridge.

"It's a great feeling and hopefully we can go through," said Sturridge. "Will I start against Slovakia? That's the gaffer's decision. I'll just perform to the best I can in every game."
