Baylor spokesperson: Art Briles vote never happened

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The reported vote held Monday by Baylor's board of regents to determine the future of ex-coach Art Briles never happened, a school spokesperson told Mark Schlabach of ESPN.

Multiple reports Monday claimed the school's regents were set to vote that evening to either keep Briles fired or welcome him back after a one-year suspension. Baylor interim president David Garland confirmed Monday that support for Briles was mounting among the school's donors, but denied rumors of a vote.

Earlier Tuesday, KWTX in Waco reported the vote was held, and that it was very close.

Baylor suspended Briles with an intent to fire him May 27, following a report by the Pepper Hamilton law firm that alleged Briles and other school administrators failed to appropriately address claims of sexual assault against several Baylor players.

The Bears could reportedly be forced to cough up about $40 million if they buy out Briles' contract.
