Brazil bailed out by linesman in controversial draw with Ecuador
Brazil and Ecuador played to a goalless draw in their Copa America Centenario opener Saturday, though the latter will be fuming over a seemingly blown call that robbed Gustavo Quinteros' side of three potentially massive points.
After an enthralling opening 45 minutes that featured the most end-to-end action the tournament has seen thus far, La Tricolor appeared to take the lead in the 66th minute.
Straddling the byline, Miller Bolanos drove a low ball across the penalty area that goalkeeper Alisson somehow conspired to bumble into his net. The young Roma-bound shot-stopper hung his head in shame while Bolanos wheeled away in celebration, but a reprieve came for the Brazilian in the form of the linesman's flag, as he adjudged the ball to have gone out of play before Bolanos fired the cross in.
You be the judge.
Neither side was able to craft an opening of note in the aftermath of the contentious decision.
The result leaves the two sides, favoured before the tournament began to emerge from Group B, on a point apiece, with Peru topping the section after a victory over Haiti earlier in the day.
