Report: Crystal Palace in discussions with QPR's Steven Caulker

Crystal Palace has reportedly opened talks with Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker, hoping to make the once-capped England international its first signing of the summer transfer window.

After spending last season on loan at Southampton and Liverpool, Caulker, 24, is looking to revive his stagnant career with a permanent Premier League gig, prompting interest from Palace, according to a report from Dominic Fifield of The Guardian.

Eagles boss Alan Pardew relied heavily on a centre-half pairing of Scott Dann and Damien Delaney, who started 67 times combined for the club this season. Delaney has just signed a 12-month deal at Selhurst Park and Dann is on the books through 2020.

Fellow defenders Adrian Mariappa and Brede Hangeland are both out of contract and likely to leave, while Martin Kelly has reportedly drawn interest from West Brom and Sunderland.

Hungry for a chance and available for a reported fee of £6.5 million, Caulker would be a perfect long-term partner for Dann at centre-back.

Pardew has conceded that he wants to refresh the squad by adding three or four signings including Caulker, as Jordon Mutch, Fraizer Campbell, Lee Chung-yong, Alex McCarthy, Marouane Chamakh, and Emmanuel Adebayor are all poised for summer departures.
