Casey: Valanciunas has no limitations with ankle
The Toronto Raptors will have center Jonas Valanciunas active for a second straight game Wednesday night, but this time he actually saw the floor.
Valanciunas has missed the last eight contests due to a right ankle sprain, and didn't make it into Monday's Game 4 against the Cleveland Cavaliers, despite being dressed for the first time since the injury.
Raptors head coach Dwane Casey told reporters Wednesday that, while the 7-footer's conditioning may not be up to par, he has "no limitations with the ankle."
He was looking pretty spry in warmups.
That left only the small issue of finding a place for Valanciunas in the rotation. His usual backup, Bismack Biyombo, had been playing out of his skull since Valanciunas went down, and his speed and mobility make him a better defensive counter for Cleveland's deadly spread offense.
"He's our starting center but we've got to respect what Bismack is doing on the court," Casey said. "Jonas understands but he is ready to go."
Valanciunas checked in after about six minutes into the first quarter, and scored four quick points.
He was playing the best basketball of his career before he got hurt, averaging 15 points and 12.1 rebounds in 10 playoff games.
