Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was removed from Tuesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds after an awkward headfirst slide into home during the sixth inning.

It was initially reported that Puig may have suffered an injury on the play, but manager Dave Roberts said after the game that he pulled his star outfielder for not running out his single off the wall.

The daring dash happened after Howie Kendrick reached base on a error by Reds first baseman Joey Votto, and Puig raced around from second to score on the play. In an attempt to avoid Tucker Barnhart's tag, Puig had to maneuver through and around Kendrick's bat placed in front of home plate, causing the Dodgers right fielder to make an unorthodox headfirst slide.

He was replaced prior to taking the field in the top half of the seventh.
