Giovinco hoping for Italy spot at Euro 2016

Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco may not have been named to the Italian national team's provisional 28-man training camp roster, but that isn't stopping the Atomic Ant from hoping for a later call-up.

The 2015 MLS MVP and Golden Boot winner was left frustrated by New York City FC in a lackluster 1-1 draw Wednesday night but remains an ever-present threat in league play, leading the league with eight goals in 11 matches to go with five assists.

His form alone should have Antonio Conte's attention, however Giovinco remains in limbo:

"I don't really know. I haven't heard very much," he said of a possible call-up through a translator, according to James Grossi of MLSsoccer.com. "We'll wait until the end of the week to find out whether it happens or not."

Conte must submit his final roster by May 31 and while Giovinco should be available for Saturday's match against the Columbus Crew, Toronto FC head coach Greg Vanney said his team doesn't know what Conte will decide.

"I have no indication of which direction this is going to go," Vanney said Tuesday. "My understanding is that they have a camp, that they've called in a group. Seba is staying with us to the end of the week, at a minimum."

"(When) they announce the next portion ... I don't think I'll get advance notice -other than maybe an hour or two before it gets announced."
