Chicharito, Guardado lead Mexico's 23-man Copa America squad

Bayer Leverkusen goal machine Chicharito Hernandez and PSV Eindhoven midfielder Andres Guardado are among the veteran 23-man squad Mexico announced Tuesday for this summer's Copa America Centenario tournament.

Mexico's fifth all-time cap leader Rafa Marquez got the nod, as did Guardado's PSV teammate and Luke Shaw leg-breaker Hector Moreno. Noticeably absent are LA Galaxy attacker Giovani dos Santos and Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela.

Monterrey Liga MX side Tigres boasts the most players in the 23-man squad with four, followed by Primeira Liga giant Porto with three.

With two second-place finishes in 1993 and 2001 marking the country's deepest Copa progressions, manager Juan Carlos Osorio and co. will look to better those results when the tournament kicks off June 3.

Los Tri find themselves in Group C with Uruguay, Jamaica, and Venezuela, with their opening match against the Luis Suarez-led Los Charruas on June 5 carrying massive implications.
