Report: Patriots' Amendola recovering from knee, ankle surgeries

A pair of offseason surgeries reportedly have Danny Amendola facing somewhat of an uncertain status heading into the upcoming season.

The New England Patriots wide receiver underwent procedures on both his knee and ankle following the 2015 campaign, according to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.

A timeline for the 30-year-old's recovery has not yet been made clear. While the Patriots are hoping that Amendola will be ready for training camp this summer, Howe added that there's "no guarantee" he'll be back in time for Week 1.

The knee procedure stems from an issue Amendola dealt with over the second half of the regular season and the ankle surgery was to remove a bone spur.

In what can now be considered an insurance policy for Amendola's availability, New England added a number of receivers to the mix this offseason. Chris Hogan, Nate Washington, and fourth-round draft selection Malcolm Mitchell would each be candidates for more substantial workloads should Amendola's absence extend into the regular season.

The Patriots also appear to have been planning for the possibility of an absence to start the season, as a significant restructure of Amendola's contract included a roster bonus that can be paid out on a per-game basis.

Amendola was a reliable target for Tom Brady last year, recording 65 receptions for 648 yards and three touchdowns.
